I have done this section of the planning after the camera testing and location, which has benefited the section as the colour scheme I am going to use has changed because of the location and lighting. instead on focussing on the colour red, I am now focusing on Green. This has effected the costume decision as it means that the actors will have to were something Green instead of red.
The first costume which you will see is the actors shoes. The shoes that the actor will wear will be a type of trainer as the this is the most common and popular shoe type, for my target audience.
The colour of the actual shoe will not matter as it will be in black and white, but I do want the shoe laces to be green. This does mean that the actor will not be able to wear plimsoles, or slip on shoes.
The shoes below are all good shoes choices, as they are all stereotypically associated with the target audience, and very popular in this demographic.
I have chosen these shoes as the top three chooses as they all represent the target audience best. all three are brands which the target audience would wear and are the most common and popular among them. The top two shows are both nike one low cut and the otter high top. the bottom one is an adidas hightop. trainers are actually one of the most important costume designs I have to make, this is because a whole out fit can be defined by the trainers which the artist has in the hip-hop world, so is essential I get this part right, and I show the brand of the trainers as this is looked upon as a way to show how much they cost. This trend in trainers significant in the rap world and has had various songs, meaning that this is the first section of the costume which I have to look at. The video below shows the significance of trainers in rap music, and the influence which they have.
The trainers will effect all of the caters in this video.
The second significant part of the costume decision which I had to make was the hoodie which the main actor will wear. The main criteria of this is that it will have to be green as this is the colour i want to pick out when filming. The hoodie itself does not have as much subjective meaning behind it as the trainers, its more of a style associated with the target audience, and the colour its self is supposed to represent the artist music style and lifestyle.
The artists will be wearing black jeans as I feel this will, be keeping with the style and fashion which is associated wight the artist. This is key as I think keeping the identity of the artists is key, for the promotion of the music video as his already existing fan base can still relate to him. The jeans will be skinny fit or slim fit, this is actually going against the stereotypes of rappers, but the fashion which rappers have have diverged in the last century and the target audience will recognise this, but this might be slightly weird for the older generation which will have other expectations of the artist dressing.
The artist will be wearing a chain and a watch as the is are common jewellery in rap music. This is because they are a way of showing the artists wealth and success. The colour of the chain or watch will not actually be shown as gold or silver in the video as it is black and white. but because of the stereotypes associated with the artist and rappers the target audience will instantly assume it is gold. I have even though about the smaller details like the earrings which the artist will wear. The artist will wear a pair a diamond earrings. All the jewellery supports the ego of the artist, and hess small details are just creating a image of the artist as being successful, which is a common factor in the artists music.
The costume for the other characters will be roughly the same, exceeding the green heavy clothing as they are not supposed to stand out as much as the main artists. The other two will follow the common trends and expectations for hip hop music fashion so they won't look out of place in the video, their clothing is not as key and will not be the focus if the music video, which is why they have a more flexible costume plan.
The family which is going to be in the video will be able to wear what they want, within the boundaries, as they are supposed to be a normal family who are supposed to be relatable to a wider audience, compared to the hip hop dressing of the actor. This will make the video more relatable to both the younger audiences and in to a wider audience who might have the same relation in their families.
