Planning: Camera Options

I have various eqipment avaliable to me to comlete this project interms of camera hardware. Available to me to use is:

  1. Ipad
  2. Nexus 5
  3. canon EOS 1100D DSLR

These first two are slightly unconventional methods of filming a music video but due to the development in technological convergence they are both able to shoot videos in 1080p format which is a  high quality video much like the ones professional use. if you have internet connection these two devises can also back up the footage on to the cloud meaning that the footage won't be lost as easily.

These are some of the specifications for the camera on the Nexus phone.
but we do have to remember this is not the sole purpose of the product so it will have its faults.

8 MP, 3264 x 2448 pixels, autofocus, optical image stabilisation, LED flash,
FeaturesGeo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, photo sphere, HDR, dual recording
Video1080p@30fps, optical stabilisation.

The are the specifications for the iPad 4

5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus
Features                          Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection
Video1080p@30fps

Although these two devises do gave potential I do not think they are still at the quality which i want for the music video.

The next camera which I looked at was the Canon EOS 1100d. this cameras main purpose is for still images and does perform better in these conditions but it still has a very capable video recording feature, for this task.

  • Superior 12-megapixel image quality
  • On-screen Feature Guide
  • Creative Auto and Basic+
  • HD video capture
  • ISO 100-6400 sensitivity
  • Wide-area 9-point AF system
  • 63-zone iFCL exposure metering
  • 6.8cm (2.7”), 230,000-dot screen
  • Use with all EF and EF-S lenses

The fourth camera which I looked at was the samsung flashcam (SMX-F33). this cameras full purpose is for filming so it would have more video feats compared to the others, although this model is slightly outdated compared to the others it does have features like time laps. but this feature is not needed I'm my music video, so I unlikely that I will use this as its image quality is still behind true DSLRs. this camera was also not that popular as it was hard to find decent quality footage of it.

The 5th camera was the Canon legrea which I have used before and I know that its good, for long periods os recording as it is designed for this purpose, but it will not produce the desired images. this camera is more of a home video camera, although it does film in HD its still low quality compared to the Canon EOS 1100d. this camera also does not produce consistent images and this was found from experience when using the camera. the image quality is vey weak in low lit conditions and produces very grainy images which is not ideal.

The video below is of the project which I completed last year using solely the Canon legrea. I think this video is best to demonstrate the quality of the camera as it was used in multiple lightings.
