The artist I am most likely to focus my project on is Chance the rapper. Chance the rapper is and American artist from Chicago Illinois, born 1993 April 16th. Chance the rapper is also known as "Chano" or his birth name which is Chancelor Bennett. He has been an active artist since 2011. This artist is known for his alternative hip-hop genre and is a highly anticipated rapper song writer. At the moment he is an independent artist and he is signed to.
The first song which chance released of his 10 days album was Windows featuring Alex Wiley & Akenya Seymour. This was the track that really got him noticed as an artist. Following this he publicly announced his ten day album, but all this happened much later from the recording of the album as he worked on the album for a year longer and the released it April, 3 2012.
This album attracted the attentions of may magazines like "complex" and they highlighted him"10 New Chicago Rappers to Watch Out For" and has been in similar tables in the UK. Chance also grabbed the attention of forbes and he appeared in the cheap tunes column this was part of some very crucial publicity he needed as he was not sighed and to this day he is still sceptic about making this move.
Chance the rapper is commonly associated with artists like Vic Mensa, Childish Gambino and has collaborated with more popular Artists like Justin Beiber in the song "Confident", James Blake on the song "Life round here", Lil Wayne on "You song" and the drum and bass artist skrillex on the song
Chance the rapper's current Album is his second official album, titled Acid Rap. this ablulm had already reached double platinum on the site Datpiff and has over 500,000 downloads. Chances album was nominated best album of 2013 by BET Hip Hop Awards. since this album chances media attention has been increasing has he has been involved in projects like the relaunch of my space commercial, with other artists like Mac Miller, Schoolboy Q and Pharell Williams. Early 2013 chances album debuted 63 on the billboard chart due to bootleg downloads on amazon and itunes, which would affect him more as he is an independent artist.
The respect and recognition for his talent is still growing and had the 26th best album on the rolling stones list and 12th on the Pitchfork's list then he came 4th overall on the complex list. Which was a great achievement for an independent artist without much financial backing.
the track list below also shows some of the producers which chance has worked with and this shows the growth in connections he is getting although they are not that famous themselves but we can still see that the artist is getting a huge backing tom various people.

"If there was a way to measure efficiency in the form of fans gathered at set compared to number of actual albums released, Chance The Rapper would be off the charts. He may be competing with the Kings of Leon and Skrillex, but plenty have shown up for the hometown Acid Rapper."

"Vic Mensa made an appearance, but the big reveal was a white-hooded, sunglasses-clad figure who turned out to be R. Kelly. He did “Ignition (Remix)” and was gone, but the appearance of one of the city’s towering musical figures during Chance’s set was an affirmation of his place in Chicago’s scene."
This is further recognition of chances quick rise to fame as he was not not only the headlining act but he was supported by one of Chicago's greatest.
Chance the rapper interviews.
The interviews shown below give an insight to the sort of artist and person that chance the rapper is. Using this information I will be able to create a more personalised and accurate representation of the artist, both through the music video and promotional packaging.
From these interviews we get a better insight on the ideologies of the artist and the kind of person they are. we can see that chance in not sighed and is not looking to be sighed soon, although this gives him a disadvantage compared to the other artist, backed by the money, he does not want to be controlled by big media conglomerates, he wants to focus on his music.
We also see that chance can be very intelligent and cares about his background and home. We see him fighting for his home town Chicago, both for the violence to stop, and the promotion of the talents and musical background there.
We also find that chance has a lot of influences in jazz music and the old school rap, which has influenced the sound he has created in the acid rap mix tape. The many artists and sound which he talks about in the interviews we can hear in the album, like the song Juice.
Below is a Soundcloud clip from an interview chance did with BBC Radio one extra with DJ Semtex. The song would have been part of Chances international tour in England.
